So somewhere down the line they were related to Shukracharya. Yadu was Devayani’s son who exchanged his youth with Yayati.

Devayani was Shukra's daughter yes and Yadu was her son. But it was not Yadu who exchanged, it was Puru. That is why Yadu (and Yadavas) were cursed to never be kings.

Note how Kartaveerya was an ancestor too? Despite all the horror he inflicted and an avatara had to come down to stop him. Another avatara came in the villain's own line.

Yayati’s oldest son Yadu- Yadu’s son Sahasrajit- Satajit- Haihaya- Dharma- Netra- Kunti- Sohanjit- Mahishman- Bhadrasena- Dhanaka- Kritaveerya- Kartveeryarjuna (the famous)- Jayadhvaja- Talanjangha- Vitihotra- Madhu (from whom Madhavas came)- Vrishni- Yudhajit- Sini (father of Satyaka, who was father of Satyaki) and Anamitra

The Yadavas, Madhavas, Vrishnis came from the three most important ppl of this lineage.
